12 Responsible consumption and production

If we don’t change how we do things, by 2050, we will probably need the equivalent of three Earths to produce the resources needed to satisfy our current lifestyle.

This observation encouraged the United Nations to make implementing sustainable ways of consuming and producing – founded on the rational use of natural resources – its twelfth sustainable development goal by 2030. The idea is to do more and better with less. Involve the entire chain, from producer to consumer, so that everybody feels engaged and also enjoy the benefits in terms of well-being.

But progress needs to be made in numerous fields: wasting less food should, for example, help relieve hunger, better management of chemical products should help reduce air and water pollution. The only way to do this is to educate populations about sustainable consumption.

What can you do? Recycle everything that can be recycled. Limit your consumption of plastic and compost your organic waste.
