Ten Solutions That Prove the Transition Is Already Underway

By Élise Rouvier · December 8, 2022

When people ask what the ecological transition actually looks like, the honest answer is that it looks like thousands of small, stubborn experiments. The Solutions web series exists to film those experiments while they are still fragile, before anyone is sure they will work. After three seasons on the road for the web series, here are ten episodes that convinced us the change is no longer a promise. It is already happening.

Energy, reinvented from the ground up

Start with the obvious: electrons. Heliatek prints organic solar film thin enough to wrap a facade, while CorPower pulls energy from the rise and fall of the sea and Eco Wave Power bolts its converters straight onto existing piers. Up in the sky, EnerKite flies a kite to reach stronger, steadier wind, and in the Moroccan desert the Noor solar tower stores the sun as heat so it keeps working after sunset.

Cities that give back

Urban life does not have to be extractive. The Smog Free Tower scrubs city air and turns the captured particles into jewellery, and Pavegen harvests a few watts from every footstep on a busy floor. Even healthcare is rethinking its footprint, as the forest hospital Friluftssykehuset shows.

Water and waste, closing the loop

Finally, the resources we waste most. Hydraloop recycles the water a household throws away, Precious Plastic open-sources the machines to recycle plastic anywhere, and Beach Guardian turns beach clean-ups into a community habit.

Ten films, ten proofs. None of them will fix the planet alone, and none of them pretends to. Together they sketch the outline of a world that already knows how to live differently.
